Founded on 5 June 1224 by Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II (King of Sicily) via imperial charter, the University of Naples Federico II (Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II) is recognized as the world's oldest state, public, and non-sectarian higher education institution in continuous operation.
