About University of Genoa
Founded in 1471 under the papal bull of Pope Sixtus IV, the University of Genoa (Università degli Studi di Genova - UniGe) is one of Europe's oldest, most distinguished, and comprehensive public research universities. Situated along the Italian Riviera in the historic maritime republic of Genoa, UniGe educates over 32,000 enrolled students and employs nearly 3,000 academic, clinical, and administrative staff across 5 prestigious Schools (School of Natural Sciences, School of Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Social Sciences, School of Humanities, and the Polytechnic School) encompassing 22 departments. The university is deeply integrated into the cultural and architectural fabric of Genoa, with its central rectorate headquartered in the 17th-century Palazzo dell'Università on Via Balbi (a UNESCO World Heritage Le Strade Nuove site). Alongside its central Genoa campuses, UniGe operates specialized regional satellite university poles in Savona (celebrated for its smart polygeneration microgrid and renewable energy living lab), La Spezia (Italy's premier hub for Naval Architecture, Marine Technologies, and Yacht Design), and Imperia (focusing on Law, Public Administration, and Tourism Economics). A founding member of the prestigious Ulysseus European University alliance, UniGe is globally celebrated for its leadership in Marine and Maritime Engineering, Robotics, Computer Vision, Oncology, and Pharmacology.
