As the pioneer public university on the island of Borneo and the eighth university established in Malaysia, UNIMAS spans an expansive 2,200-acre master-planned campus set amidst the biodiverse rainforest landscapes of Sarawak. Known globally as a center of excellence in community-driven technological innovation, tropical rainforest conservation, indigenous healthcare, and creative arts, UNIMAS operates through 11 multidisciplinary faculties and premier research centers—including the Institute of Biodiversity and Environmental Conservation (IBEC), the Institute of Health and Community Medicine (IHCM), the Tun Abang Haji Openg Digital Centre (TAHODC), and the state-of-the-art UNIMAS Teaching Hospital (Hospital UNIMAS / PPUM). In addition to its flagship Kota Samarahan Main Campus, UNIMAS maintains the UNIMAS City Campus in Kuching and the Sibu Clinical Campus for advanced medical education.
