About Tokyo University of Science
Tokyo University of Science (東京理科大学 Tokyo Rika Daigaku, colloquially known as TUS or Rikadai), established in 1881 by 21 young physicists who had recently graduated from the University of Tokyo as the Tokyo Academy of Physics (東京物理学講習所), is Japan’s oldest, largest, and most renowned private university dedicated exclusively to natural sciences, engineering, pharmaceutical sciences, and technological management. TUS holds the unique global distinction of being the only private university in Asia to have produced a Nobel laureate in natural sciences — alumnus Dr. Satoshi Ōmura, who was awarded the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Operating three major specialized campuses in Tokyo and the Greater Tokyo Area — the historic downtown Kagurazaka Campus in Shinjuku, the state-of-the-art urban Katsushika Campus (housing advanced robotics, AI, and engineering complexes), and the sprawling scientific research park of Noda Campus in Chiba (home to the Research Institute for Biomedical Sciences - RIBS and the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences) — TUS is celebrated for its meritocratic tradition of "Achieving Excellence Through Rigor" (実力主義). Educating over 20,000 students including approximately 800 international scholars from across the globe, TUS offers generous tuition reduction schemes (30% to 50% waiver for international scholars), world-class laboratory infrastructure, full MEXT scholarship quotas, and top-tier graduate recruitment into Japan’s leading technology giants.
