About The University of Aizu
The University of Aizu (会津大学 - Aizu Daigaku / UoA), founded in 1993 in Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima Prefecture, is Japan’s very first public university dedicated exclusively to Computer Science and Computer Engineering. Selected by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) for the prestigious Top Global University Project (Super Global University Type B - Global Traction), the University of Aizu is acclaimed internationally for its cutting-edge computing curriculum, world-class research centers, and extraordinarily multicultural academic environment. Approximately 40% of its faculty members are from overseas—representing more than 20 countries worldwide—giving it one of the highest ratios of international faculty of any university in Japan. Its academic curricula are systematically designed based on the IEEE and ACM Computer Science Curricula 2013 (CS2013) and Computing Curricula 2020 (CC2020) frameworks. UoA offers the ICT Global Program All-English Undergraduate Course (International Engineer Development - IED Program), allowing international students to earn a full 4-year Bachelor of Science and Engineering taught 100% in English. At the graduate level, the Graduate School of Computer Science and Engineering conducts Master’s and Doctoral degree tracks entirely in English across 5 core research fields: Computer Science (CS), Computer Systems (SY), Computer Network Systems (CN), Applied Information Technologies (IT), and Software Engineering (SE), alongside the practical IT Specialists / Project Management program. The university is home to the renowned Aizu Research Center for Space Informatics (ARC-Space), which analyzes planetary exploration data for JAXA missions including Hayabusa, Hayabusa2, Kaguya, and SLIM, as well as the Center for Advanced Information Science and Technology (CAIST). With state-of-the-art computing facilities accessible 24/7, consistent top-tier global finishes at the ACM-ICPC World Finals, near-100% employment rates at major tech corporations (Google, Sony, Yahoo, Rakuten, Hitachi), and generous prefectural and institutional financial support, The University of Aizu stands as Japan’s premiere global computer science institute.
