About Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University
Visit Official WebsiteRitsumeikan Asia Pacific University (立命館アジア太平洋大学 - Ritsumeikan Ajia Taiheiyō Daigaku, widely known globally as APU) is Japan's most international university, founded in April 2000 through an unprecedented public-private partnership between the historic Ritsumeikan Trust (学校法人立命館, founded in Kyoto in 1869), Oita Prefecture, and Beppu City. Perched atop the scenic Jumonjibaru plateau overlooking Beppu Bay—the world's most famous thermal hot spring city—APU was created under the revolutionary founding mission of "Freedom, Peace, and Humanity," "International Mutual Understanding," and the "Creation of the Future of the Asia Pacific Region." APU is globally distinguished by its unique multicultural campus architecture: exactly 50% of its nearly 6,000 students are international scholars originating from over 105 countries and regions, while 50% are domestic Japanese students, matched by an equally diverse international faculty body where more than half hail from abroad. Nearly all undergraduate and graduate programs operate on an authentic dual-language system, allowing students to enroll and complete their entire 4-year degree 100% in English or 100% in Japanese, while acquiring professional fluency in the other language. The university features three pioneering undergraduate colleges and two graduate research schools: 1. College of International Management (APM): Holds the prestigious Dual Crown international accreditation from both AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) and AMBA (Association of MBAs)—an elite honor placing APM in the top 2% of business schools worldwide. Offers specialized tracks in Strategic Management, Marketing, Accounting & Finance, and Innovation & Economics. 2. College of Asia Pacific Studies (APS): UN Tourism TedQual certified, providing multidisciplinary training in International Relations, Peace Studies, and Culture, Society & Media. 3. College of Sustainability and Tourism (ST - launched April 2023): A groundbreaking forward-looking college integrating Environmental Studies, Resource Management, Sustainable Communities, and Hospitality & Destination Governance. 4. Graduate School of Management (GSM - AACSB/AMBA accredited MBA) and Graduate School of Asia Pacific Studies (GSA). For incoming international students, APU operates its globally celebrated APU Tuition Reduction Scholarship (granting 30%, 50%, 65%, 80%, or 100% tuition reductions for all four years of study to approximately 80%–94% of international admittees), combined with MEXT government full-ride fellowships, low regional living costs in Beppu, and guaranteed 1st-year on-campus residency at AP House. With a stellar 98.6% career placement rate with leading global conglomerates across Tokyo, Singapore, London, and Silicon Valley, APU stands as an unrivaled launchpad for global leadership in Japan.
