

About Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre
Founded as the Tallinn Higher Music School during the Estonian War of Independence in 1919, the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre is the national center for music and performing arts higher education in Estonia. EMTA is internationally renowned for its state-of-the-art Concert and Performance Centre on Tatari street in central Tallinn, featuring a 480-seat acoustic Great Concert Hall (Suur Saal) and a modular Black Box theatre. The institution’s legendary Drama School (Lavakunstikool), founded by stage director Voldemar Panso in 1957 on historic Toompea hill, has trained generations of Estonia’s greatest actors and directors. EMTA offers world-class bachelor’s, master’s, and artistic doctorate (PhD) degrees in classical music performance, jazz improvisation, contemporary performance practice (CPPR), physical theatre making (CPPM), composition, sound engineering, and cultural management, combining Baltic and Nordic musical heritage with radical contemporary artistic experimentation.
